The Windows Media Center Virus

As you open your computer, all executable (.exe) program have been redirected to Windows Media Center.  This means that any program that you want to open , the Windows Media Center will be open, not the program you want to open. Although this may not be so destructive since it did not modify your executables or any document file but this can get you headache.

I encounter this virus last week from a friend laptop. I search for online solution and here's I found. From the website http://en.kioskea.net/forum/affich-363335-windows-media-center-virus . Just download the program, right click then Merge in windows 7 or 8. In Windows XP, just double click it then install then restart your computer. If the icon is in Windows Media Center file, open the command prompt, type regedit then browse these tree folder HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Explorer \ FileExts \ .exe  and finally, delete all contents which are associated with Window Media Center.

Thanks to sieuchuoi...for this solution.

The Power of A Torrent

Today, movie creators, programmers and software developers have lost a lot of money due to torrents. You can have a copy of movies a day after it has been show in cinemas and a DVD rip or a BlueRay rip after the movies DVD and BlueRay copy has been out to the market. You can have a software application with crack or serial included using the torrent or play latest games without even buying it from the store. You just have to know how to READ, UNDERSTAND and FOLLOW instructions specially when working with crack and keygen. Also you have to risk because other cracks have a hidden virus waiting to be installed.Well, what should you do? Just download a uTorent program or a BitComet application from the internet and install it. Then goto www.torrentz.eu. It's a site links to all torrent site online such as piratebay, h33t, kickasstorrents, rarbg, torlock, extratorrent, torrentbit, vector, fenoy, torrenthound, fulldls, seedpeer, torrentzap, torrentdownloads, torrents.net, bitsnoop, 1337x, newtorrents.info, katmirror.com and many more. Just select the link that has a greater number of seeders for faster downloads and for the movie enthusiasts, always select those uploaded by YiFY because I can assure you that, it's a good quality.

What is a Virus?

Here in the Philippines, I usually encounter people specially those that did not study computer tend to used the word "Virus" even the problem is Hardware faulty wire, power supply failure, or dust. Let me tell you what is a virus? A virus is a software program created by programmers not to help but to destroy, misplaced, or delete your hard work data and files on your PC. It is usually a resident program hidden in memory waiting for a user intervention through commonly used command or time triggered to be activated or just a simple file from disk waiting to be open and reproduced itself.

Some virus also destroys your hardware specially BIOS the first program run by your computer before Operating Systems loaded, and other's reset and shutdown your PC repeatedly.

Nowadays, the virus that I always encountered is the virus that targeted flash drive to propagate themselves. When a PC is infected with this virus, the flash drive that will be inserted to the PC will be compromised by setting the real folders attributes to hidden and set it to system folders and creates the same folder name in which it's true identity\is not a folder but an executable file with an icon of a folder.  That folder when opened by a user creates a memory resident program to the target computer and opened the real folders linked to it and checked if flash drive inserted is already compromised. Every newly folder created in a flash drive by a user is hid by the virus and creates a copy of itself with a name the same as the newly created folder.

ESET Nod32 antivirus can clean this virus by deleting those executable folders from the flasdrive resulting from unable to access your files on your flash drive which you may now think that your files  have been deleted by the virus but it's not because if you see the properties of your flash drive, it is not 100% free space. Your files are still there. It is only hidden and set to system folders.

How to unmarked a files and folders attributes as system files and folder? Hidden files can be unhide though windows properties but not system files and folders. It can only be done through the ATTRIB command in the COMMAND PROMPT. That is if you know how to used DOS commands. You can also download a special third party program called FEBOOTI fileTweak from www.filetweak.com. Febooti file tweak Expands Windows property tabs to display additional file properties such as  the Attributes tabs. View file and folder content (copy file list to clipboard). View file and directory description. Manage Creation date, Modified date and Last Accessed date.
Read more: Febooti FileTweak - CNET Download.com http://download.cnet.com/Febooti-FileTweak/3000-2248_4-10466056.html#ixzz2WOEt4N00

When febooti file tweak is installed just show hidden and system file from the folder options in the control panel. To do this, go to Control Panel click Folder Options, Click the view tab, uncheck "Don't show hidden files, folders or drives" and uncheck "Hide Protected Operating System files (Recommended)" and click APPLY. Now open your flash drive and unhide every file and folder or just select it all by pressing Ctrl+A then right click to the files then click Properties then click ATTRIBUTES tabs(you will see this when febooti is installed) then unchecked "hidden", unchecked "system" check "include subfolders" and press OK. Now you have to hide the system folders again because system folders should not be visible to the user by default as it is used by Windows to operates. Go to Control panel then folder options then click view then click Restore Defaults and press OK.

That's it! You unhide your files hid by the virus in your flashdrive. Well be sure that your PC is not affected by this virus before doing everything. Because everything you do will be waste because everytime a folder that is not set to hidden and system attributes will be hide by the virus automatically.

How To Set Folio (8.5x13) Size in Excel 2013

I've been wondering why I can't find the Folio(8.5x13) size in the drop down list of Excel 2013 after installation. But after searching for an answer online...the only reason is that excel unlike in MS Words is dependent on the settings set by your printer. This means that whatever the settings appear by your default printer will also be the settings you will see in the drop down list of your excel page size in page setup. If you don't have any printer installed on your PC and your default printer is set to One Note then you will not see the Folio size in the drop down list of your excel program. You must change your default printer to Microsoft XPS Document Writer for you to see the Folio size in Excel.

If you have a printer driver, you don't need to do this because today's printer driver always have a 8.5x13 page size. But if you don't have one you have to set your default printer to Microsoft XPS Document Writer by going to Control Panel then Hardware and Sound then Devices and Printers if you're using Windows 8. If you're using an older version of Windows, I'm sure you will not find it hard to find and change your default printer in the control panel.
Now if you dont have a printer at home and you want to print it in computer shop, it is better to convert it to pdf format using the save as button, select the pdf in the drop down menu, select advance for an specific page to covert. Why do you have to do that? Even if you already done the formatting of page setup you will surely encounter problem in printing in computer shop since the printer in computer shop is different from yours.

How to troubleshoot a totally blackout computer?

One of my friends ask me this question recently so I decided to post it online. Here are the steps by step procedure.
1. First check if everything is connected and check if cable (power cord to computer from avr) is working properly by using it in another fully working computer. If you don't have one use a multitester. Sometimes the cable is only the problem. If cable is working properly, it could be the avr  or your UPS or your monitor. If not then proceed to step 2. If monitor is the problem, then the computer CPU is working properly and you will see lights and hear sound that the computer is starting but no images appear on the monitor.
If power supply problem, the computer cpu have lights and the processor fan is working for a little period of time and shutdown immediately. If no effect at all after booting your computer then somethings not right from a power source to avr/UPS to your computer power supplies.
2. The possible reasons could be  your video card. I suggest to used your built in video card or if your motherboard does not have a built in video card, used another video card that is working. If your computer is working properly after changing video card or using the built in then you have to clean your video card for dust particles using never been used paint brush or used pencil eraser to the the pin of your video card  for any rust due to electricity spark. Check if your video card electronic parts have a blown capacitor. If you find one then you have to replace your video card or you can also replace the capacitor that has been blown but I cannot guarantee you that it will work again
3. Next reasons is your memory card misalignment or dust problem. Remove your memory card first and boot the computer. If you hear a continuous beep then your computer has passed motherboard.testing failures to be in good working and cannot read the memory because you have remove it. You have to clean it just like you did in video card before inserting it again to the memory card slot. Be sure to close the Automatic Voltage Regulator (AVR) or cut the power source before touching anypart inside your computer.
4.After trying everything and you can't boot your computer then I suggest to replace your motherboard or buy a new one.
5. If you read and see characters on the screen during boot up but cannot go  to windows  then it could be your windows operating system is the problem. If you read "Reboot and select proper boot device" then the problem is misalignment of your hard disk data and power cable because your computer cannot read any bootable hard disk.
